“In order to put a stop to disinformation, we hereby confirm that the police came to our office today. CRTA is fully cooperating with the state authorities. The question we pose is how it is that the tabloids published that information even before the police arrived at our office,” CRTA said in an X post.
The police raided four NGOs which are housed in the same building in central Belgrade earlier on Tuesday.
Civic Initiative official Maj Stojanovic said that she was not in the offices but that she spoke to a superior of the police unit that conducted the raid who told her that he would not speak over the phone but would talk to the NGOs lawyers and accountant. “We had not prior warning. We did have a story in Radar weekly that my personal bank account is being investigated under orders from the money-laundering department which is illegal and we got information from the (pro-regime) tabloids and the state TV (RTS) that the police raided organizations which have USAID projects,” she said.
The police also raided the Center for Practical Policies NGO which does not have any USAID projects.
