State radio editor cancels show over sound cannon incident

An editor at the state Radio Belgrade canceled her show in protest over the alleged use of a sound cannon at the March 15 protest in Belgrade, the Serbian Association of Journalists (UNS) said on Tuesday.

Gorica Pilipovic, editor of the Ars Sonora music show said that her regular show “has fallen in the strike of the current sound cannon”. She wished her listeners and the protesting students all the best. She told the UNS that she decided to cancel the show because of the unprecedented danger to peaceful people, children, students.

UNS said that Pilipovic was ordered to write a statement before the station management will decide on a punishment.

She said that the use of an intimidation tool at the protest was “the height of the inappropriate behavior by state structures”.

Pilipovic’s protest is one of several by staff at the state Radio TV (RTS).
