Stevanovic: Authorities pushing citizens to take justice into their hands

She also believes that as the processes progress, we enter into „more and more clear repression.“ The latest attack on students also showed that Novi Sad has become the center of „thugs, hoodlums and para-structures created by the government, who are just waiting to deal with dissenters,“ according to Stevanovic.

„Then, they started using repressive measures and now they are simply entering into what they are experts in – to twist reality upside down, to turn victims into criminals, from fighters for freedom and rights into thugs or destroyers of the constitutional order. It seems like it is important that the masks have fallen off and that a large number of citizens finally see this twisting and imposition of a parallel reality,“ she stressed.

Asked how much responsibility the media has in the latest attack on students – considering the videos screened on Pink TV or those of the Center for Social Stability, as well as the article in Kurir – Stevanovic replied that, unfortunately, the media’s responsibility does not exist.

„We can no longer call those media – media – they are weapons. They are weapons that are simply absolved of any kind of responsibility“, she added.

Stevanovic also emphasised that at the moment there is no institution to which people could react – from the REM, the Ministry of Information, the Prosecutor’s Office…

„As in other spheres of life, citizens are starting to take matters into their own hands when it comes to the media, considering that they are really becoming dogs let off the chain, which no institutional response can stand in their way. That’s what’s scary,“ she said.
